Originally from the UK but having lived abroad her whole life, sports were one of the main ways for Ela to connect with others — especially when moving to a new country. Although Ela was the youngest and usually the only girl, her parents still signed her up for every sport possible, such as, baseball, football, volleyball and basketball. She played sports all the way until university, where she realised that many sports were heavily surrounded by binge drinking (in the UK at least). Instead, she sought other ways by which to maintain a healthy lifestyle, such as through MASS (muscle and athletics society) where their main focus was on how to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle while at university. Sports have always been a huge part of Ela’s life, and she hopes in the future she can inspire more women and girls to participate in sports and gain a sense of self-empowerment like sports has done for her.
