Our panel discussion, “From the Athletic Field to the Business World: Getting to the top with an Athletic Mind-Set” was a great success.
We heard insightful and inspirational stories from our panelists Kim Boreham, Tobey Hill and Greg Brutus, moderated by Camille Cheng.
Playing sports allows us to build, practice and hone skills that are transferable to the workplace. We heard:
– Sports give us a sense of confidence: when we get accomplishments, and meet goals and milestones. That sense of confidence translates into a stronger sense of self-belief. That we CAN.
– Sports don’t only provide us with a support system and friendships, but also networks and community. Importantly, it allows us to build relationships with people from different communities, backgrounds and interests. From that aspect it builds our ability to work with different people.
– Sports help us “let go” especially when dealing with losing. Playing sports give us the ability to manage setbacks and when things don’t go the way we want, we can re-evaluate, to think how we can do better next time, and move on. It’s a feedback loop that allows us to always adjust. And sometimes, when we don’t do what we set out to achieve, then we have to be honest and realistic with ourselves.
